I have a customer that I set up with DynDNS to route their PC Anywhere connection to a computer on their network. This computer sends out Email whenever certain events happen. Unfortunately, the program they use to watch these events and send out the Email only uses smtp port 25, and their mail provider has now moved to block that port (now they use port 587). Would they be able to use Mailhop Outbound to redirect this outgoing email to their smtp provider on the correct port? Any info would be great! Thanks!

MailHop Outbound cannot help here, as it uses alternative ports only on its input side, but port 25 for the output too, which you said is blocked. Why not simply use another e-mail client (e.g. http://www.blat.net/ supports any ports) or perform a simple port translation (e.g. with http://www.delegate.org/)?

I have to admit, I have never had to fiddle around with this kind of issue, so I'm quite ignorant on the subject. I will have to look further into your suggestions, however, they cannot use a different Email client, the software they are using watches the status of bits in a PLC and sends out an Email notification whenever it sees an alarm. Port 25 is hard coded into the program and cannot be changed, so I am kind of stuck.

No problem, so go for the second option to do a simple proxy/port translation. It's really rather easy. And if they block the alternative port some day again to change to another, you are already pretty much prepared to follow them.

I would like to enquire about the Mailhop Outbound features as I'm new to this and had never tried Mailhop services before.

I was wondering based on the following scenario whether it be suitable to use Mailhop Outbound service.

Essentially, the company had no email server by itself. Just an internet connection with router/hub for network connection. Basically, the company just want to utilise the HP Plotters for example where it has a feature of sending email alerts such as job accounting and ink levels to the intended email recipient. Basically, we would need to input the smtp server IP address and the intended email recipient so that the user can receive email alerts (ink level and job accounting report) sent by the plotters.
Is Mailhop Outbound service a suitable one for this kind of purpose?

From what I see here is that Mailhop uses a hostname but does it have an SMTP ip address for it?

Thank you in advance.

Your biggest problem is likely to be that MailHop Outbound requires authentication. Does the HP Plotter support that?
