I tried to install the latest updater (that's 4.0.8) under a Windows Server 2003 R2 version, and after entering the user and password, it sends a message saying that it cannot synchronize with dyndns.com. After a while trying several network changes and configurations, I gave up and installed the updater on a Win XP Pro system, and it worked without any hassle! Is it possible that the updater does not run properly on W2k3 R2? Do anyone else have this problem? :?

Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of Win2k3 to test out the Updater on. But I've been hearing quite a few issues with it.

Did you install as a service?
Is there anything in the log file?
Does the Updater detect your IP address correctly?

Well, I tried both ways: installing as a service and not installing as a service, and it doesn't work, no matter how it is installed. And the log only records the starting of the service, nothing more. Finally, if I try the Refresh IP link on the main configurator page, it tries to synchronize with dyndns.com and fails, so the current IP address stays as unknown.

I believed it to be a networking problem, because in the advanced page, the version information stays as Checking for upgrades, so I thought It had to be a network problem, however, after trying several things, it worked fine on an XP system on the same network, so it looks that the problem is actually the OS....

Yeah, definitely seems to be a 2K3 specific issue. When synchronizing with DynDNS.com, it actually attempts two connections. One to checkip.dyndns.com, and another to dyndns.com to get the host list. The IP Check should always work, even if other things fail.

So it seems like everything can be boiled down to Internet connections - they just don't seem to be working in Windows 2003. The Updater uses WinHTTP to achieve its HTTP connections. Could you try installing this package? I'd like to know the results of the installation, and if anything changed on the Updater afterward.

Ok, I tried to install the package you suggested, and it turned out that there was a newer version of the package already installed as a part of the SP2, so, it didnĀ“t let me reinstall it. Hope this is enough information for you about this W2K3 issue with the updater.
